Build The Bridge. Cross The Bridge

Updated: Nov 30, 2023

Britnie here…

Have you ever wondered why change is such a hard thing to do? Or have you ever wondered why life seems to be on repeat day in and day out? Like you can’t quite break free from old habits and old ways of thinking?

I have.

And let me tell you, when you become desperate enough for a breath of fresh air, you will finally take that big gasp of breath.

Along my journey in this life towards answers and guidance, I have learned that in order to truly come out of something, you first must look at who you are being.

I know that’s hard. It was hard for me too. And still is.

But the good news is, once you realize the truth, that you were never that false identity or those groups of habits and thoughts, but instead a sentient being, you will no longer be offended with taking accountability.

Plus, what other choice do you have?

I have come to see that our environment is one of our biggest enemies. We are bombarded with daily reminders of who we’ve been in the past by the people, places, and things that are now artifacts of time gone.

Then we get stuck in this loop of residual feedback from previous times like there’s an invisible groove in time and space that keeps us on a track that we no longer want to be on.

I remember reading something a while ago that said that if you cannot think what you want to think, then you are in bondage.

Powerful isn’t it?

After studying the Bible and other books that support what scriptures say, I have learned that it is true…Keep thy heart with all diligence; for from it flow the springs of life.

This implies that there is a work that is required of us by the very first word in that verse…keep.

That word keep means in charge of and or control.

I also believe that the first step to be in charge and in control of something is to first survey the thing you are taking charge and control of. Take inventory. Look at it. Look at what needs to be improved and what needs to be thrown away.

Then build from there.

How you ask?

Again, first look at who you are being right now.

A quick word on accountability…

Accountability doesn’t mean invite shame or condemnation on yourself. Because really, who is that going to serve? What can shame or condemnation produce other than more of itself? That’s that loop I mentioned earlier.

Don’t get me wrong, these feelings can serve a purpose such as jarring you out of your stupor, but let it end when its time for it to end. And then move on.

Plus, don’t you know that who you’ve been isn’t really your fault? That that false identity was handed over to you at birth? No one has taught you how to think or how you were meant to function.

Instead you have been molded and programmed by your environment to be who you are right now. No conspiracy theories here. You can research it yourself.

It’s called conditioning.

I call it deception.

Accountability means to acknowledge. Do not deny or turn away from. If you are

offended by who you’ve been and the results you have produced, acknowledge that you are offended. Accept it. That is the real you. The one who is offended. When you acknowledge your inner being, you liberate yourself every time. Because the lie can no longer hold you hostage.

Shame, guilt, and condemnation will have to release the grip on you once you acknowledge the current state you are in.

That’s what I mean by take accountability.

Once you look at who you are being, the next step is to create a bridge that you must cross to reach the one who you are becoming.

You can’t change that old personality. Don’t waste your time. Take it off like you would a coat or sweater and set it down.

Put on a new coat. A better coat. A new identity.

Build that bridge and then cross that bridge. As you do, the more fortified and established the new identity becomes.

But remember, treat yourself as if you are holy, because you are. Act as such. And choose to cross the bridge as someone who is worthy.

More to come.

I hope this helps.
